The burned areas from the Ditweiller Fire are still visible in the hills from my home. The tragedy in Pardise has created another wave of climate change refugees. Thousands of people, having survived the loss of everything, must start their lives over from scratch.
I continue to strive to design homes that meet the needs of the occupants.
A new commitment to safe housing must be made. Here, in the Wildlands Urban Interface areas, we face special hazards. How can we have safe, affordable housing? The answers are not simple. The changes in the climate have made the stratagies of yesterday obsolete. Fire codes give us a minimum level of protection.
